The Highland Historic District covers the oldest part of the city: the original townsite, platted in 1891, and part of a 1904 addition. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The district grew where Palm Avenue met the Santa Fe Railroad, which made it a natural center for the citrus industry.
You can still read that history in the streets. Packing houses line the old rail corridor, the historic commercial core runs along Palm Avenue, citrus growers built large homes on West Main Street, and citrus workers lived in smaller cottages throughout the district. The National Register nomination lists Mission Revival, Queen Anne, Craftsman bungalow and Spanish Colonial Revival among the styles found here.
For a seller, an older Highland home is a chance to stand out from newer tracts. We stage with furniture sized for the rooms, keep colors calm so original trim and windows show, and make smaller cottages feel open and bright in photos.
Older homes can also need some work before listing. We walk the home with you and separate the repairs buyers will notice from the ones that can wait.
Yes. In a smaller cottage we use fewer, well-scaled pieces so every room reads clearly and feels larger in photos.
